There is a point every October when fall finally feels like it has arrived in Georgia.

On Saturday, October 17, Main Street will fill with food, entertainment, local businesses, families, and plenty of people making a day of it in downtown Acworth.

If you're coming for Taste of Acworth, give yourself enough time to explore beyond the food. Part of the fun of spending a day downtown is slowing down, wandering Main Street, and seeing what you might find inside the locally owned shops and boutiques along the way.

A Little Something for the Dogs, Too

October 4 is World Animal Day, and around here, we know pets are family.

If your dog accompanies you on your downtown adventures, October's cooler temperatures make it an especially nice time to get outside together. And if you want to celebrate at home, here's an easy fall treat you can make for your favorite four-legged family member.

Easy Pumpkin Dog Treats

Combine 1 cup plain pumpkin purée, 2 cups oat flour, 2 tablespoons unsweetened xylitol-free peanut butter, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Add a small splash of water if the dough is too dry.

Roll the dough out and cut it into shapes — or skip the Martha Stewart portion of the program and simply make small flattened balls.

Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes, allow them to cool completely, and store extras in the refrigerator.

Your dog will not care whether they're shaped like tiny pumpkins.
